Fitted dry suits verses loose dry suits?
Why are almost all of the dry suits I have found loose fitting? I did find one that was fitted – the Ski warm SWS Sahara Dry suit. It is for kayaking, etc. and is fitted. Any disadvantages to fitted?
Drysuits are used to keep you warm whilst scuba diving. As you dive deeper, the air trapped inside the drysuit gets squeezed and air needs to be added to relieve the pressure. If the drysuit is a membrane suit, as opposed to a neoprene suit, more air is usually added. In addition, one wears an item known as a ‘woolly bear’ as insulation underneath the dry suit. Drysuits ned to be loose to allow for more air, especially if it’s a membrane suit: a neoprene suit doesn’t usually need a s much air inside to compensate. When you’re just on the surface, as in kayaking, then a loose fit isn’t as necessary, apart from ease of movement.
