How long is the gap between floweing cycles on a potted indoor azalea plant?
I was given a beautiful azalea a few weeks ago and have now pinched off all of the dead flowers. I am wondering how long it will be before more start to appear? Thanks!
Because Azaleas are seasonal most potted ones are manipulated in nurseries or green houses, to perform at gift giving times and not available year round. You must mimic the changes of the season to rebloom them. Most people plant then out side, but not all varieties used will be hardy ones in your area. ,,either way you are taking a chance.
Usually, they are considered to be like a long lasting flower arrangement, that is not as expensive as cut flowers. A very nice gift, but few people bother with them after they lose their blooms.
I am fairly certain you will need to repot it. Set it outside in partail sun if you can until freezing weather threatens and then move it to a cool bright location, it should stay moist, but not soggy . If you want to shape it up, do your pruning NOW, otherwise just let it grow. Feeding should be done now through August, and then no more.With any luck it will bloom next spring.
