Like baseball, the UFC is seeing its share of controversy
Much attention has been paid to the NFL and Major League Baseball recently because of the rules changes and steroid scandals. As the Ultimate Fighting Championship continues to grow in popularity, which is beginning to see its share of controversy.
The first controversy started with the Knockout Kimbo Slice. Slice was supposed to be the baddest man on the planet. After all, was the star of YouTube with an eye threatening that apparently could not be stopped. But the legend all come to a final crash, when an unknown named Seth Petruzelli TKOed Slice just 14 seconds into the fight. Immediately the cries of "FIX!" began to fill the BankAtlantic Center, where the fight took place. Ultimately, there is evidence of each solution Once found, unmounted suspicions.
Then came the UFC 94. The main event featured top welterweights and fierce opponents George St. Pierre and BJ Penn. A controversy emerged during the fight as San Pedro was seen with his back after having rubbed Vaseline applied to the face. San Pedro went on the throttle Penn. For the rest of the fight, Penn seemed listless and did not seem to do anything to protect themselves from St. Pierre. Penn later issued a formal application to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, requesting investigate. In response to the controversy, the UFC has changed the official rules so that only men can cut into the octagon for the treatment of a fighter.
The latest controversy seems right out of the NFL. Lately, the referees have been taking a lot of heat from the breaks early and to allow fighting to continue for too long. Even UFC president Dana White has intervened and asked concerning recent to be simply atrocious.
The stoppages by the referee at UFC 96 have been well documented. However, the controversy really began at UFC 95 when UFC newcomer weight Paulo Thiago welterweight and knocked out UFC star Josh Koscheck half of the first round. Koscheck said he was still conscious and able to defend himself. Thiago, a member of the MMA sports company Basthardt team fight, Koscheck caught with a vicious hook that sent his opponent to the canvas extensive. Clearly he did not want to hurt his opponent further, the wrestler had a Basthardt step back, allowing the referee to jump and shake hunting out. For some at the O2 Arena in London, it seemed as if the fight was too soon. However, after reviewing the tape, Koscheck clearly do not have their senses and the fight correctly called off.
As the UFC continues to gain traction as a legitimate sport, new controversies are inevitable. Lets just hope not okay to sink the new league.
